, professor jim crumb what was shot in the classroom. 25-year-old chris crumb who's been identified, entered the classroom and reportedly concealed the prosz cross bow in a blanket. he had several knives on him. police say that's when he shot, mortally wounding, shot from the cross bow injuring his father. but miraculously, the professor was able to stay alive long enough to struggle with his son so that six students could escape from a classroom. the local police chief praised jim crumb's actions. >> the suspect entered the classroom where professor crumb was preparing to start the day. crumb got struck with the arrow and even though mortally would be -- wounded, he was able to fight the suspect off while the students were able to escape. >> any motive as why to why this young man was so angry that he killed his dad and his dad's girlfriend. >> clearly something snapped in this 25-year-old. i spoke with a neighbor of the couple of these professors, the neighbor said the couple was very friendly, she met them last summer, but they largely kept to themselves. so it's still a mystery

from heidi arnold and jim crumb. she said she met them last summer, that they largely kept to themselves but there were no red flags about any of this that potentially could have happened. and in a press conference with police, there weren't any red flags, i would could have been much, much worse. both of the professors are dead and there were six students in the the classroom at the time of the incident. the chief of police called professor column a hero. >> the suspect fired one arrow and struck the professor in the head. professor crumb got up after being mortally wounded and fought the suspect off. the six students in the room were able to escape the altercation because of the briefly of the professor. >> jim crumb and heidi arnold were important parts of the campus community and their loss will leave a big hole in our lives. that's from casper sclej. >> it was amazing this teacher was able to do this after he was mortally wounded. did police receive any 911 calls stating that there was a problem, was there a suggestion a note had been left behind. >> we put in a call to c

, earlier we got a statement from casper community college. they told us jim crumb and heidi arnold were important parts of the campus community and their loss will leave a big hole in our lives. >> covering this story and then the kansas city chiefs story, you wonder what in the world is going on? what drives people to do that. when they do horrific things like that, you know they're disturbed, somehow disturbed individuals with a whole lot going on that people don't know about. the college doing anything to help people who knew the victims here? >> i spoke to one of the counselors earlier. they're having a vigil on tuesday at 4:30 local time and giving counseling sessions. one was a computer science teacher, the other a math teacher. a sad situation there in casper, wyoming, but counseling sessions are being offered. we'll keep you posted on that vigil on tuesday. >> thank you. >>> we are just hours away from finding out who the next cnn hero of the year will be. a live update from the red carpet next. can i help you? i heard you guys can ship ground for less than the ups store. t
